Facility Cleaner/ Maintenance

Spec’s Facility Cleaner/ Maintenance will be responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of common areas and the manufacturing facility in support of daily operations. This role is also required to ensure that our facility cleaning/maintenance process continually improves by working both independently, and collaboratively with the numerous stakeholders. This role can be described as 75% cleaning tasks and 25% maintenance tasks.



This position is accountable to the Maintenance Leader for the following key outcomes:



• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility.

• Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, through cleaning, building maintenance, work planning, and maintenance record keeping.

• Keep the preventative maintenance process and associated documentation up-to-date and facilitate continuous improvement to the process.





Health and Safety: Ensure that health and safety requirements are met. Promote a health and safety culture including the safe operation and daily inspection/maintenance/cleaning of tools and equipment.



Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean the facility to ensure a safe, healthy, and functional environment by following the preventative maintenance system. Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility and all common areas including entrances and outdoor walkways (such as shoveling and spreading salt). Activities include but are not limited to cleaning and maintaining washrooms, kitchen, and lunchroom facilities; floor cleaning; dusting; waste removal; vacuuming; window cleaning; sweeping. Track maintenance and repairs; plan for downtime; and mitigate operational disruptions. Monitor and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment in support of daily facility maintenance.



Continuous Improvement: Support the continuous improvement of the maintenance process by gathering feedback, data from the maintenance process, and information from contractors, then using that feedback, data, and information to improve safe operations, minimize disruptions, and help to control costs.



Collaboration: Build and sustain collaborative and trusting relationships with internal team members and external contractors.

 

Support: Support all aspects of facility cleaning and maintenance as needed, including the needs of the second shift as needed.



Experience and Knowledge Required:

• High school graduate, or equivalent; additional certifications, an asset.

• At least 2 years' facility maintenance / janitorial experience in a manufacturing environment. • Technical maintenance skills, an asset.

• Customer-oriented attitude with a strong commitment to health, safety, the environment, and quality.

• Strong effective communication skills and a customer-focused approach with all persons in the facility.

• Able to work independently and cooperatively with others to meet deadlines and commitments.

• Proven ability in recommending and implementing improvements.

• Time management and prioritization skills. Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing low to high heights, and walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing cleaning materials, dust, and noise. Work required in inclement weather conditions.
