Company Fundraiser
On May 24th, Spec held a company BBQ fundraiser with all proceeds being donated to Stella’s Place, an institution that provides free mental health services for young adults between the ages of 16 and 19. Stella’s Place empowers individuals to learn new skills and manage their mental health by offering accessible free-of-charge services.
Spec staff got together to enjoy a delicious lunch of burgers served with a side and drink. Burgers were cooked up by our Factory Leaders, and salads and sides were provided pot-luck style by various staff members. The shared responsibility in the event created a sense of community around the initiative, and our employees contribution was matched by Spec for a sizable donation.
Donations for Every Sale
Our Behavioral Health products are specifically designed for patient safety and comfort, providing these critical healing spaces with furniture that promotes healing and a home-like environment. We see this as our ability to make a small impact on an increasingly important health initiative.
Throughout the entire month of May, we pledged to donate $10 from every Behavioral Health product shipped to support local Mental Health Initiatives.
Thanks to the support of our incredible customers, we were able to donate to two very deserving local charities, Youth Without Shelter and Anishnawbe Health Toronto’s Mental Health Services.
Youth Without Shelter is a charity offering shelter and support for youth facing homelessness in the GTA, where all donations will support hygiene supplies, food packages, public transportation, and safe shelter.
Anishnawbe Health is the only facility in Toronto that provides Indigenous clients with both Western and traditional approaches to health care. Through our donation to AHT, we are supporting their mission to create an environment where the urban Indigenous community can heal spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
We are immensely grateful to all the customers whose orders helped support this initiative–each shipment carried with it the power to effect positive change in our community.
Psychological Safety
In manufacturing environments, our attention is often focused on safety initiatives that ensure the physical safety of our employees. In May, we shifted our focus to the importance of psychological safety. In short, psychological safety is the idea that a person won't be punished for speaking up with ideas, questions concerns, or mistakes. in our mission to create a diverse and equitable workplace, we embed these beliefs into our organization.
We have partnered with the Academy of Brain-based Leadership to train our staff on psychological safety by using a science-based approach to build safe, inclusive, and resilient workplace environments. This is important because we care about the safety and well-being of our employees and give everyone a space for inclusion. This training has now become a new standard in our leadership onboarding and will continue to be offered to all employees throughout the years to come.
Thank you!
As we reflect on the success of these campaigns, we are filled with pride and fulfillment in our company’s efforts.
We believe that it is always important to lend a helping hand, even after the month is over because there is always someone in need of it.
Thank you for joining us on this inspiring journey and helping us build a brighter future for mental health.
